Curriculum
Film Kids pitch and develop original stories, choose camera shots, develop characters, run cameras and help direct others to shine. Our original curriculum teaches digital filmmaking through fun, activity-based projects grounded in acting and film. Instructors with professional film backgrounds encourage storytelling in a variety of genres, where we all learn to express ourselves through art and visual storytelling. We also recognize that filmmaking gives opportunity to practice positive social behavior, patience, planning, and cooperation, which is just as important as a good movie!
Behind the Scenes
The Film Kids make movies in after school clubs all across Austin.
Film Kids uses hands-on, student-driven filmmaking to encourage young people’s creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
Values
Film Kids let their voices be heard in a special balance of collaboration and individual expression. Our film projects challenge members to make decisions as a group, resolve creative differences, and respect the ideas of others. Filmmakers experience each others’ perspectives, practice empathy, and participate in their personal growth and the society around them. We feel success by persisting in challenging projects and we have fun doing it!
